update 01 - My 10 year journey to learn CS
Before I begin, I want to clarify that my post (and the timeline) was heavily inspired by Peter Norvig's blog post. Of course, learning to code can easily happen within a couple of years - but I aim to be "great" at it.
Today's post is my first update since then, and I hope to update every six months going forward.
Currently learning
- Just started with the Odin's Project JS pathway last week.
- I will start with the basics of DSA next week - I do plan to apply for junior roles once I complete the Odin Project. In my local job market, DSA questions are the first layer of assessment for all programming jobs, so I have to learn & grind it despite knowing that it might not be useful in my day-day-job.
Completed so far
- The Odin Project’s Foundation course
Highs - completed the Foundations course & built a basic calculator site as part of the course.
Lows - When I first started the calculator project, I was completely blank on how to begin & how to make it work - had to take a break from studying for a couple of hours and also look at other people's submissions/Youtube to understand how to set it up. Definitely a reality check on how long the journey is going to be.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
